Dear Students,

After studying different environmental issues,

it's time for you to find an environmental cause that interests you.

Below there is a list of web sites that you may peruse.

You may also do a search for other environmental causes that you find important.

1. Competency 1: Interprets a Contemporary World Problem

- Identify actors, facts, and context -

You need to write a detailed report on an environmental

group and their campaign,

answering the basic questions:

who, what, where, how, why, when (timeline/goals and history).

Most of this information can be found on

their web sites, but a check of other online sources

such as Wikipedia may offer other perspectives.

100 words minimum, full sentences.

No copying and pasting. Must be in your own words.

2. Competency 2: Take a position on a contemporary issue

- Considers opportunities for social action -

Write your opinion on the cause. Here are some sample questions you may answer.

-Do you agree with the cause? Why or why not?

-Would you like to take action by signing an online petition?

-What do you not quite understand about the campaign?

- Do you have any solutions in mind that could help the campaign?

-How does it relate to you as a citizen?

-How could you change your daily activities to help support the cause?

100 words minimum.

You have time in class on Monday october 19th to work on this.

Your assignment is due by Sunday October 25th

before you go to bed (as in, Monday morning).

This meeting of world leaders provides a crucial opportunity for the global community to agree a fair, ambitious and binding treaty on climate change. SEPTEMBER 21th : RING THE BELL AT 12.18

On Monday September 21th, people around the world will be asked to deliver a wake-up call to leaders with their cell phones, watches and alarm clocks.
All schools will be asked to ring the school bell at 12.18. This is an ideal time for young people from all around the world to help influence this global event. So on Monday, don't forget, «let's wake-up together!»
